Mind over Matter.

Mind Over Matter means unleashing the infinite power of the mind to challenge realities and overcome our limitations.

If you eat when you’re not hungry – when you’re distracted or bored or just because the food is there, this is called “mindless eating”. It can lead to unconscious weight gain and unhealthy food choices.

So, what’s the cure? Practice “Mindful Eating”.

  • Sit at the table. Eliminate distractions – No TV, No magazine, No cellphone!

  • Be aware of your food. Notice bright colors and fresh smells of fruits and vegetables.

  • Take a moment to be Thankful. If eating fresh vegetables, think of the CSA or farm you got them from. Be thankful for those joining you at the table.

  • Slowly chew and savor the food. Notice the aromas, textures and tastes of every bite.

  • Put your fork down periodically. Breathe and stay relaxed as you tune in to your body’s signals.

  • Know when to stop. Stop eating when you feel satisfied, but before you feel full.

Practice mindful eating on a daily basis and you can learn to make healthier eating choices.

Think of mindful eating as Yoga for your food. Practice these steps and you will be on your way to eating a healthier, more balanced, more nutritious diet.

Food is to be savored and enjoyed. Eating times should be fun and relaxing and stress-free. Don’t hurry thru your food experiences during the day. Take the time to really get to know your food and let it become your friend into your body instead of an enemy.

The longer you stay at the table with family and friends, the more satisfied you will feel with your meal, and the longer conversations you can have. Better meal planning, enhancement of your senses, and more time spent with family and friends!

It doesn’t have to be a vicious cycle, just a mindful one! Who wins? Everyone does!
