Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate and Brown Sugar Butter Spread

(makes 2 loaves)
2 1/3 Cups sugar
2/3 Cup shortening
2/3 Cup water
2 tsp baking soda
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
3 ½ Cup flour
2 Cups pumpkin
½ tsp cloves
½ tsp baking powder
Chocolate Brown Sugar Butter Spread Topping:
8-10 chocolate kisses (or semi-sweet chocolate chips)
¼ Cup Brown Sugar
3 T butter, melted
Mix all dry ingredients together in a separate bowl.
In an electric mixer, add all the wet ingredients. Mix until smooth.
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the batter and mix until smooth.
Pour into 2 bread loaf pans and bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes, or until knife comes out clean when inserted into loaf. Place on rack and let cool.
For the Topping or Spread:
Melt the butter and the chocolate together in a microwave safe dish.
Add the brown sugar and mix all together until creamy.
Use as a spread over the top of the breads or use as a spread on individual slices!
