Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate and Brown Sugar Butter Spread

(makes 2 loaves)

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/3 Cups sugar

  • 4 eggs

  • 2/3 Cup shortening

  • 2/3 Cup water

  • 2 tsp baking soda

  • 1 ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 3 ½ Cup flour

  • 2 Cups pumpkin

  • ½ tsp cloves

  • ½ tsp baking powder


Chocolate Brown Sugar Butter Spread Topping:

  • 8-10 chocolate kisses (or semi-sweet chocolate chips)

  • ¼ Cup Brown Sugar

  • 3 T butter, melted


Directions:

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together in a separate bowl.

  2. In an electric mixer, add all the wet ingredients. Mix until smooth.

  3. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the batter and mix until smooth.

  4. Pour into 2 bread loaf pans and bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes, or until knife comes out clean when inserted into loaf. Place on rack and let cool.


For the Topping or Spread:

  1. Melt the butter and the chocolate together in a microwave safe dish.

  2. Add the brown sugar and mix all together until creamy.

  3. Use as a spread over the top of the breads or use as a spread on individual slices!
