Are you a Super Mom?

Then You are a true-life hero! What does it mean to be a super mom? It means you are taking care of yourself and your families health happiness! Yeah, for you! You are loving the Mom life and it shows! Good for you!

Does it mean Mom life is easy? No. Does it mean that Mom life is hard? Another No. A super Mom’s life is both. When it can be hard, you find a way to make it easier. And if it is easy – you just make it better. Yay you!

Being a super mom can also be overwhelming or underwhelming. But you don’t have to let it be either way! Teaching your family to eat right, to exercise, to get plenty of good sleep and to stay hydrated are the first few steps to raising a healthy family!

Good eating and exercise habits start at home. And it often starts with the Super Mom! Starting your babies off on a great health happiness journey from the moment they are born is the best way to assure they will live long, healthy lives.

Teaching your children to love their veggies, staying hydrated with water, and getting enough exercise are great steps to keeping them from becoming overweight and unhealthy.

All those great habits will become second nature to your family. You will find that the gratification you will receive is that you are raising them to be health conscience kiddos and that gratification will come back to you ten-fold with happy, healthy peeps!

Do you have a picky eater in your family? No worries – try these ten approaches first, before they condemn themselves to foods that are not so healthy for them.

  1. Try eating the food first to show them you like it. 😊

  2. Make funny faces with the foods on their plate. 😊

  3. Give them a choice of different foods to try. 😊

  4. Serve new foods with foods you know they like. 😊

  5. Try freezing small bites of leftover foods. 😊

  6. Wait a couple of days before offering the food again. 😊

  7. Get them involved in meal planning and prep. 😊

  8. Take them shopping with you and give them their own list. 😊

  9. Make the dinner plates attractive. Remember to serve the “rainbow.” (Lots of colorful, yummy veggies). 😊

  10. Have them create their own recipes! 😊

Try these approaches and you will have a win-win celebration at mealtimes!

Make your mealtimes and your exercise times fun and adventurous!

Do you have a couch potato among your brood? Try these ten approaches to getting them off the couch, outside, and exercising!

  1. Be a role model. Your children watch and mimic your habits, good and bad. If your kids see you being physically active and having fun, they’re more likely to be active and stay active throughout their lives too!

  2. Use exercise as transportation. Walk your kids to school or take a bike ride to visit friends. You also can park at the far end of parking lots and take the stairs instead of the elevator.

  3. Involve the whole family. Invite everyone to participate in fun activities.

  4. Make some activities social. Invite your kids' friends to join in on the fun!

  5. Use competition as a motivator. Make it a contest between you and the kids to see who can run faster or do more sit-ups or jumping jacks. Give the winner a prize. Track your results and progress. (I love using my Fitbit!)

  6. Include the kids in household activities. Many household chores, like washing the car, mowing the lawn, or gardening are great opportunities to sneak in a little physical activity. Plant your own vegetable garden and teach your kids where vegetables come from, how they grow and how delicious they can be!

  7. Give gifts that promote physical activity. Bicycles, jump ropes, hula hoops, ice skates, basketballs, and even active-play video games for “the Wii” make great gifts that promote physical activity.

  8. Limit TV and computer time. Offer them active options, like joining a local recreation center or after-school program or joining a sport they enjoy. When your family watches TV together, get everyone moving during commercial breaks – do jumping jacks or have a quick dance-off! (keep their eyes off those unhealthy food ads!)

  9. Plan vacations with new ways to exercise. Plan your family vacation around planned activities. Go hiking, bi-cycling, kayaking, camping, or even just going for nature walks. You’ll get to explore new places and teach your kids to appreciate nature. Take a vacation at home with these activities too and your family will enjoy them for years to come!

Remember - Physical activity helps kids develop mental clarity, feel less stressed and provides an outlet for their energy! What a relief for you too! So, choose physical activities your kids will enjoy, stay positive and get the whole family moving.

Teaching your kids to eat healthy and become active are two great reasons for being that Super Mom!

Stay or become that Super Mom you were/are destined to be!

Your Family’s “Health Happiness” depends on it! 😊
