Do you have the "Yo-Yo" Syndrome?
April 30, 2021
Are you Yo-Yoing? Do you have the “Yo-Yo Syndrome”?
“Yo-yo dieting, also known as “weight cycling,” describes the pattern of losing weight, regaining it, and then dieting again. It's a process that causes weight to go up and down like a yo-yo.” It is the unfortunate cycle of weight gain and loss that may cause a lifelong pattern of despair. People stuck in this negative routine desperately want to lose weight, but they just can't seem to maintain weight loss.
The reasons we yo-yo diet are varied but often include starting on a diet that was initially too extreme. At first, we experience elation at the thought of weight loss and pride in our rejection of food. Then the diet becomes too strict or too boring and we just stop dieting all together and gain it all back and most of the time even more weight comes back on.
The problem is that we just did not find the right diet to begin with. We often seek quick-fix diets because we want to lose our weight fast, when the reality is, it just does not happen that way if we want long-term “life-time” success!
The truth is that no matter which diet you try, the message is clear: Diets do not work. At least not in the long run. Sure, you can lose weight, but after a year, at least 1 in 3 of us gain it back. After 5 years? Almost no one keeps it off.
So how do we break yo-yo dieting?
Here are some top ways to stop yo-yo dieting and lose weight for good:
Get enough sleep.
Slow down your eating.
Avoid unrealistic expectations.
Limit alcohol intake.

Variety is your friend.
